چکیده
A facile solvothermal route has been developed for the preparation of europium doped gadolinium orthovanadate nanoparticles (~70 nm) with tetragonal structure, based on a homogenous precipitation reaction at 120 °C from rare earth precursors (yttrium nitrate and europium nitrate) and sodium orthovanadate solutions using an ethylene glycol-water mixture as the solvent. The effects of the doping level on the luminescence properties were evaluated in order to find the optimum nanophosphors. These nanocrystals were successfully functionalized with amino (two step process) and carboxylate (one-pot process) groups provided by amino-dextran polymers (AMD) and polyacrylic acid (PAA), respectively. It was found that while the luminescent properties of both kinds of functionalized systems were similar, the colloidal stability of the PAA-modified sample was higher, because of which, it was selected to study their cytotoxicity and magnetic properties (relaxivity and phantom analyses) to assess their potentiality as multifunctional probes for both "in vitro" optical biolabels and negative contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging.

Colloidal synthesis of germanium nanocrystals
In this study, colloidal germanium nanocrystals were synthesized by a simple and novel method, and their optical properties were also studied. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a surface modifier was used to control the optical properties of colloidal Ge nanocrystals. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis was performed to identify the various functional groups present in the sample. ...
متن کاملNew generation of magnetic and luminescent nanoparticles for in vivo real-time imaging.
A new generation of optimized contrast agents is emerging, based on metallic nanoparticles (NPs) and semiconductor nanocrystals for, respectively, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent imaging techniques. Compared with established contrast agents, such as iron oxide NPs or organic dyes, these NPs benefit from several advantages: their magnetic and optical properti...

Objective(s): The present study aimed to evaluate the capability of synthesized and modified superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) as the positive contrast agent in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by investigating the effect of repetition time (TR) on the MRI signal intensity. Materials and Methods: SPIONs were synthesized using the co-precipitation method, and their surfac...

متن کاملEngineering of lipid-coated PLGA nanoparticles with a tunable payload of diagnostically active nanocrystals for medical imaging.
Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) based nanoparticles are biocompatible and biodegradable and therefore have been extensively investigated as therapeutic carriers. Here, we engineered diagnostically active PLGA nanoparticles that incorporate high payloads of nanocrystals into their core for tunable bioimaging features. We accomplished this through esterification reactions of PLGA to generate p...
